How quickly perceptions change...

Amazing how quickly Miles has made me realize how much Dylan has grown. My in-laws have been telling us to expect this for the past 6 months and the whole time we were both pretty sure we'd already realized how big he's gotten. I believe at one point I said, "our changing table makes it pretty apparent how much he's grown...he practically falls off it now."

But they're absolutely right. Although I might have realized how long he's gotten, that didn't do anything to make me understand how giant each of Dylan's individual parts are in comparison to the newborn-babyness that is Miles. Every time I change Dylan's diaper...I'm forced to compare that big boy bottom to the total-lack-of-bottom that Miles is currently sporting. If it wouldn't embarass them for all eternity...I'd post a picture to illustrate.

Every time I see Dylan's feet lately, I just want to break out the camera and preserve their current (relative) smallness for posterity. Because they're already so HUGE in comparison to Miles' little baby toes. I haven't yet actually managed to take this picture...cuz I'm generally nursing Miles when the urge strikes - but I will eventually capture approximately 700 images of those little boy toes for my sappy perusal later in life.

But this...this image is one I see about 87 times a day (because Dylan is obsessed with Miles fingers and constantly wants to "hold it"). And every time Dylan holds Miles' hand I'm struck again by how big my baby's fingers have gotten. Makes me want to cry...I thought my boy had tiny little fingers until Miles came along and reminded me what tiny really means. Dylan's fingers look like nothing so much as sausages in comparison...don't believe me? Check this out...
