Had a moment with Dylan tonight that needs to be preserved for posterity...so I can return to it when I'm feeling mopey or irritated by teenagerness or whenever necessary.
As usual when closing out our bedtime snuggles, I told him I loved him. Here's the conversation that ensued:
D: "I love you too, mommy...And I love daddy."
Me: "He loves you, too."
D: "And I love Miles."
Me: "And he certainly loves you, too."
D: "And I love Opa and Oma...and Gotta and Louis and Paul. They are all my friends."
Me: "And what about Gramma and Grandpa and GiGi?"
D: "I love them, too. They are my friends, too."
Me: "And Uncle Aaron and Aunt Laura?"
D: "Them, too."
Me: "And Aunt Debbie and Aunt Diana. And Uncle Keith and Uncle Herald. And Aunt Janae and Aunt Tevin and Uncle Brian and Uncle Nick...and there are so many people who love you."
D: "Yeah. Them, too. They are all my friends...but I don't have any more friends right now."
Me: "Soon you will. When you go to Kindergarten and playgroup. Soon you'll have so many friends that you won't even wanna be friends with your mommy."
D: "But I'll still love you."
Me: *silent hiccup of heart-bursting emotion* "And you know I'll always love you."
Kids are the awesomest things ever.
