Update on the Schnegglet and his pregnant mom

So I'm only a week late in posting the update but it's better late than never, no? We took another peek at the Schnegglet last Friday (for which I again have no pictures...) Upon strict orders from my mom, I also got stats on the lil' man.

He was 44 cms long (17" for the metric folks) and weighed some 2 kg (4.4 lbs). Although mom also specifically requested information about the size of the Schnegglet's head (in order to determine whether he'll be as large-domed as his big brother), I elected to skip this measurement. To be perfectly honest, I don't particularly wanna know how big that noggin is.

As far as me...I apparently went to hell in a hand basket a little over a week ago. Mind you, I still have zero reason to complain considering how easily I've had it for my first 7 (8? how far along am I again?) months. In any case, I've started wearing my support stockings more often - just in time for summer, which is sweet.

Then I developed this severe pain in my pubic bone. Apparently I've developed "diastasis symphysis pubis" which is medicalese for "things are looser than they're supposed to be down there." Apparently forceps are the gift that just keep on giving...In any case, I'm moving like an 80-year-old and trying to follow those illustrious members of the silver-haired generation for a few tips on getting in and out of cars/bed, etc with minimum pain. Seriously uncool.

Friday night introduced "the cramps from hell" to our lineup of complaints. It started with a cramp in the ligament behind my knee that took about 15 minutes to go away and was followed with "the mother of all cramps" at 5:30 am. I literally rolled over G while writhing when that one started. Ended up waking the entire household with my whimpering and crying, which was so not cool since the Schnegg-man decided that was a fine time to get up for the day. Finally got rid of the cramp above my knee when G managed to force my knee to bend. The corresponding cramp in my calf, however, lasted about 3 hours. Both created 3-day muscle pain like I'd just played in a freaking soccer tournament. Awesome-sauce. Cuz I wasn't walking funny enough after the whole pubic-bone nonsense. In any case, my magnesium prescription's been upped yet again. On the plus side? Constipation is no longer an issue. At ALL.

Wednesday saw me get fitted for my symphysis belt which is supposed to help with the pubic bone pain. Um yeah. I can only say that someone who has never been pregnant developed this thing. A sitting pregnant person (or at least this sitting pregnant person) does not have an extra two inches hanging out between the belly and the legs. FYI? I don't have an extra 0.2" hanging out below the belly, yo. (Which reminds me, it's time for some more belly pics - I've finally "popped.") In any case, it's either the metal buckle digging into the belly or the lack of circulation to the legs (excellent in light of the whole leg-cramp issue) that has me taking the puppy off within 13.7 seconds of sitting down. When I told the chick at the orthopedics office of this issue, she simply instructed me that I shouldn't be sitting that way anyway. (We should all apparently sit in a half-standing position since it's better for our posture/backs, etc.) Which would be excellent if anyone would inform the makers of chairs of this fact. Unfortunately my office, my cars and every chair at every dinner table in the world have not gotten that memo.

And for the final indignity...my finger finally got too fat for my wedding ring today. I thought I was gonna make it all the way through this time around but alas, it was not to be.

On the plus side, I've still only gained 13 pounds so far. Unfortunately those 13 plus the 15 I was packing post-Dylan still combine to place me in the "very-difficult-to-find-clothes-that-will-cover-those-boobs-and-that-@ss-without-gaping-at-the-armpits-or-possessing-enough-extra-fabric-to-clothe-a-small-child" category. *Sigh*

Still love my new mom-mobile, though. And we've finally started shopping for the Schnegglet. We now have a crib WITH a mattress AND some sheets. Look at us go. At this rate we should have a full nursery set up just in time for his first birthday. :)

  1. Good luck for the next couple months. Try applying a cold metal pan on the cramp next time. Or lick some salt. Love ya.
