I've been slacking on the blog front...I know this. I'm sure y'all will cut me a little slack what with the whole newborn thing, but we'll see if I can make up for it now.
We LOVED our time with my mom - she spoiled us all rotten and made the transition to new mommy/recovery from labor MUCH easier. Nothing like having a live-in nanny/housekeeper/cook for the first couple weeks when you get outta the hospital. I hope she's recovered from her "vacation" by now. ;)
There was much hilarity while she was here though...Dylan continues to enjoy pooping and peeing all over everything. My mom said it best in an e-mail to the fam, so I'm gonna quote her (she was typing on this stupid german kezboard and just instructed everyone to just pretend the zs are ys).
"Sundaz Erica and I laughed so hard we almost peed in our pants. We went through 3 changes of clothes and 3 diapers in one changing. I thought we were going to run out of clothes the first full daz home. First we took off the wet poopz clothes. Cleaned him up and put the first cloth diaper down under him. He then sprazed poop everzwhere. On the diaper and the clean clothes. We took those off and put another diaper down and got some more clothes out. He proceeded to spraz pee everzwhere. I think he has sprazed Erica at least 3 times now. We are getting smarter. We leave the dirtz diaper under him a little bit after he is exposed to the air. Erica managed to catch the sprazing poop todaz with the dirtz diaper. We are still trzing to find a diaper that doesn’t leak. He has verz skinnz legs and no bottom."
I'm getting much better at containing his bodily fluids but he still gets me occasionally - like last Saturday when we went to give him a bath...I let him poop it out on his changing table (he pooped 3 times) and figured he was done. So I picked up my naked boy and started carrying him to the bathroom. As soon as I crossed the threshold to the bathroom he let loose again - all over my hand, the floor, splattered up on the walls & shower...fun stuff. At least he waited til we weren't over the carpet, though. Figure I'll share the fun - here ya go:
Aside from his penchant for peeing/pooping on his mother, he's an absolute angel. Mom's pretty freaking pissed that karma hasn't bitten me in the @ss - keeps telling everyone that I don't deserve a child this good. He really is an awesomely easy baby. We've been out with him several times now - shopping, to restaurants and even the bowling alley - and he's slept through it ALL (and you know how loud a bowling alley is). His car seat and bunting appear as effective as any sleeping pill. I just feed him before we head out, put him in his car seat and he'll sleep like a baby until well after we're home again.
The car seat actually worked against me when I went to get his passport pictures taken - I had to take him outside, strip him from the waist down and start tickling his feet to get him to open his eyes at all. The passport pictures were ridiculously difficult. It's fairly well ridiculous to try to get a 2-week-old to cooperate for a "biometric" photo. I had to hold his hands down with one hand, straighten his head so you could see both ears (felt like I was gonna break his neck) then quickly tickle his feet so he'd open his eyes - all while praying that he'd keep his head where I put it and not open his mouth to yawn before we got the picture snapped. It took a full half hour before we had an acceptable picture...here's Dylan's first passport picture.
He does get a little fussy in the evenings. When "Gramma" was still here he loved to suck on her finger between 8 and 10. Now that she left (and took her finger with her) we've had to learn other soothing methods. Thankfully I finally found something that works for us...here's the "windshield wiper."
