They're not kidding when they say that time flies...it seems like just yesterday that I was still pregnant and begging my unborn child to get a move on. Now my baby's already 4 weeks old! We have his one-month checkup on Friday - can't wait to get his new stats. I think he's become a bit of a chunker.
What's new in Casa Schnegg? Well, we've introduced the binky and the bottle - with no negative breastfeeding repercussions so far, so that's sweet. He's a binky boy, but not...it's kinda crazy. He has times during the day when he seriously wants to suck, then he'll go at that binky like it's cocaine. But if anyone tries to give it to him any other time (i.e. if he's just fussy), he'll just keep spitting it out. Knows what he wants, this boy o' mine.
He's not quite sure about the bottle yet, either. He did great with his first bottle but wasn't quite so excited about bottles 2 or 3. (G's giving him one bottle of pumped breastmilk a day). Yesterday he rejected the bottle after about an ounce and I had to give him the boob. He drank all 3 ounces today, though - and I had to give him some boob to top him off afterwards. Strange child.
He tested his momma on Monday...wasn't screaming per se but wanted to be held ALL DAY LONG. I ended up having him on some part of my body pretty much from 7am to 11pm (when I begged G to coddle him to sleep so that I could hit the sack in preparation for our 4am feeding). Tuesday looked like it was gonna be more of the same - with a little more screaming (due to lack-of-nap induced exhuastion). But I got tricky Tuesday afternoon. I put him in his bouncer in the bathroom with the heater on and the shower running and left him there for 20 minutes (our first attempt to cry-it-out). He didn't even cry, just whined a bit for 20 minutes and then passed out. Ever since then he's been back to his usual easy & napping self. THANK GOD.
I was physically exhausted and have now learned to appreciate how easy my baby usually is...G has since decided that it must have been the full moon on Monday that was making him so clingy. All I know is I'm glad it only lasted a day and a half.
I'm progressing in my "mommyhood", too. I've memorized my first children's book: Dr Seuss's ABCs. I think Q and X are his favorite letters so far. He really likes those quacking-quackeroos and xrays. So far his all-time favorite activity is singing, he LOVES it when you sing to him - but is particular in his music tastes - he really dislikes slow lullabyes and likes musicals. Our current favorite is Jesus Christ Superstar with our own lyrics. (Monday's lyrics were: Crank-y Pants, Crank-y Pants. Who are you? You are my...Crank-y Pants).
After singing, his next-favorite activity is "observing". He really likes sittin' in his bouncer and checkin' the world out. He likes to talk to the kitchen, too. The serving island is a particular friend.
The one thing he really hates? Tummy time. My boy is NOT a fan of tummy time. I'm thinking he's gonna be lazy like his momma...oops. (Please excuse the annoying "mommy voice" in the video.)
Oh my - he is toooo cute!
