12 months and a missing boy part...

As a rather crappy late birthday present, Dylan got two shots today. :( Had his 12-month check-up and he got pneumococcus and MMR. He took it like a champ, didn't cry long at all (especially once mom broke out the Cheerios).

The pedi really took his time with us today and gave us a full 12-month check up. Handed Dylan all sorts of different toys to check his progress on all sorts of development. We're a-ok on all of it. He's a totally normal little one-year-old.

The pedi informs me that he doesn't really need to eat at night anymore and told us that we could wean him off night eating by just leaving out one scoop of formula every couple weeks so that he starts to make up for those missing calories by eating during the day. I dunno if we'll try this or not. At the end of the day, it's 5 minutes and we're more worried that he'd start waking up at 6am again. (We've already become entirely too spoiled by the 8am sleep-ins...and are pretty grumpy when our weekends start earlier).

All-in-all, a great appointment (minus the shots, of course). But...

The damn testicle went missing again. The pedi couldn't find his left testicle anywhere (we found it again in the bathtub tonight - bouncy little bugger). The doc thinks the tube might be a little too large, allowing the testicle to move all the way up into his stomach - a bad thing since it's too warm in there for a testicle. So he's setting us up to get checked out by the specialists at the hospital in St. Gallen (about 45 minutes from us). Even that has a bit of a silver lining since I'd asked him to refer us to St. Gallen anyway for the dreaded circumcision. The pedi tells me that if they have to operate on the testicular tube, they'll likely do the circumcision at the same time. For now, I'm not stressing about it (thanks to an excellent pediatrician, I think). We'll wait and see what heads our way.

Here he is, the 29" and 19 lb 14 oz (10th percentile in both) masterpiece of little-boy perfection:

Funny side note, on the way home I took Dylan shoe shopping since his baby shoes have gotten too small. The lady at the store measured his feet and he barely makes the chart (she told me he's barely a 17, but just barely). So after visiting a couple stores (since the first one didn't have any that small), I ended up getting him a pair a size larger. Although his feet might be short, they are very fat and I couldn't get them into the size 17s...my little fat foot.
