Raising Dr. Doolittle

I've been waiting (semi-)patiently to hear what Dylan's first word(s) are going to be. Unlike most children who start with something like, "mama" "dada" or "ball" - Dylan is learning animal-speak first. His very first "word" was......"CAW." (Actually his crow speaks German and it's "Krah").

His second word? "Mmmmmmmmmm" (what a cow says).

Here he is - performing on command. (Right now his animals only speak German. His cow will occasionally respond to English, but only a German question lets loose the crow).

The crow he learned all by himself. There are quite a few crows around his grandma's house and during their walk one day, he started impersonating them. In the meantime "krah" has come to mean several things. He now sits at the door and caws at us when he wants to go outside.

We taught him to moo...he loves the cow on the front of the milk bottle - and for a while now he's gone to find the milk bottle when you ask him where the "moo cow" is. So on that front he's just extended his reportoire.

When you think about it, it makes sense. Unlike mom and dad, most animals speak the same language (first exceptions coming to mind are the frog, who says "quak" and the rooster, who says "kikeriki").

Pretty sure word #3 is gonna be "up" but we'll see...there are quite a few sheep around our house...

  1. Love it! The rooster says "kikeriki" either Spanish or French, too. I can't remember. I'm thinking it's French. The other is "cocorico". I get them mixed up.
